Simulation modelling for Barwon-Darling river system for management planning

The New South Wales Department of Land and Water Conservation (DLWC) is developing a generic river system simulation package for planning purposes that operates on a daily time step, and is known as the Integrated Quantity/Quality Model (IQQM). The model is able to simulate both water quantity behaviour and water quality behaviour in an integrated manner, and is capable of application to both regulated and unregulated streams.
IQQM is being progressively implemented in the regulated river systems in NSW operated by DLWC and in several unregulated systems as well, and is superseding monthly models in use up to now. In this paper the implementation of the water quantity components of IQQM in the Barwon-Darling River system upstream of Menindee Lakes is described, together with an overview of key features of the model and some discussion of future directions.
