Features and Limitations

Input Data

Inputs to winSEADS can be separated into three distinct groups:

Topographical:
Slope steepness, slope width, flow width as a function of distance in the downslope direction.

Hydrological:
Spatially variable infiltration and roughness parameters.
Flow rate at the upslope end of the profile.
Rainfall pattern, either as a constant intensity, or as time series of rainfall rates, ie hyetographs.

Soils:
For erosion and deposition prediction, soil erodibility, size distribution, and distribution of nutrients for individual size classes are needed.

For detailed information, see the Technical Guide and User Manual

Output Data

winSEADS produces the following output in tabular and graphical forms:

  • Hillslope profiles
  • Hydrographs and other required hydrologic variables for erosion modelling
  • Erosion, deposition, and sediment delivery
  • Sediment concentrations along the hillslope for each sediment class
  • Sediment and nutrient enrichment ratios
  • Size distribution of eroded sediments

Caution Notes For User

Known limitations of winSEADS are as follows:

  • Separation of rill and inter-rill erosion
  • No deposition in inter-rill areas
  • No simulation of breakdown of aggregates
  • Current algorithm tends to deliver greater than observed amount of fine sediments downstream
  • Event-based simulation
