Features and Limitations
Caution Notes For User
The key limitations of the data are:
? Limited characterisation of in-channel features in some surveys (particularly flood-plain studies). These studies should not be used for analyses of in-channel habitat at low flows in the river they represent.
? Limited description of flood-plain in some studies. Most studies do not provide survey data on the flood-plain.
? The Manning?s n values supplied in the .g01 files are not calibrated values, and nor are they the values used for the flow profile modelling. They are values calculated from the Dingman and Sharma (1997) empirical equation using the bankfull geometry. In the flow profile modelling, the value of Manning?s n was calculated according to the channel geometry at each stage, and thus varied throughout the flow profile. The given values are the values of Manning?s n at the bankfull stage.
? The flow profile data is based on numerical modelling using approximations of stream roughness and the downstream boundary condition (as all 1-D modelling is). It is not observed data. Roughness was estimated using the Dingman and Sharma (1997) empirical equation.
? The flow profile data is only accurate for in-channel flows. For modelling purposes, imaginary levees were attached to the channel at the top-of-bank level, preventing flow from spilling onto the flood-plain. Flow profiles on the flood-plain are not reliable.
? All channels have been treated as straight channels in the 1-D modelling and in the Geometry files.
